St. Croix Guidebook 2010

Welcome

We have had a lot of happy European tourists visiting us since 1493. The first one was Christopher Columbus on his second voyage.

WelcomeWe are situated in the Caribbean just to the right, or east, of Puerto Rico in a little box on most U.S. maps. It takes about 3-4 hours to fly from New York or Miami, depending upon which gate your flight leaves from.

St. Croix is the biggest of the three US Virgin Islands but it's still a small, cozy place. Most of it's 50,000 inhabitants are friendly, charming and beautiful. The balance are just charming and friendly. We are (almost) all U.S. Citizens. We use U.S. Dollars when we have them; otherwise we use plastic.

Since we are not a state but a U.S. territory, we cannot vote for President, which gives us many sleepless nights. However, we do have a delegate to Congress who, on the other hand, cannot vote either.

Among the Virgin Islands, St. Croix is the island where European history can be studied the best. We have lots of historic ruins, museums, architecture, etc. And it's easy to imagine life in the old days.

Everyone enjoys our world famous beaches, golf courses, duty free shopping and, of course our weather, which ranges from beautiful to excellent, with scattered showers at convenient times.

We are really looking very much forward to seeing you here and know you will enjoy our island.
